Be the GM - Knicks are in a precarious situation... What would you do?
Knicks owner Jim Dolan held a meeting with coaches and team executives some week backs and revealed his expectation of a Knicks championship this season. The Knicks are 2-4, proving to be contenders. If you were the GM, how would you handle this current Knicks team?
Heres what you have to deal with:
Current Situation: 2-4 record, Tyson Chandler out for the next 4-6 weeks, Amar'e Stoudemire (the second star) is a shell of him former self and 5 Glaring Weaknesses as pointed out by @dishinnswishin1: bad team defense, no set rotations, stagnant offense, flawed roster and lets add in for good measure a lack of rebounding.
Salary Situation: Knicks owe $88,249,067 this season, $300,000 is owed to CJ Leslie and Jeremy Tyler who no longer play for the team. Much of that salary belongs to players who are considered un-tradeable or very hard to trade; Stoudemire is owed $21,679,893, Anthony - 21,388,954, Chandler -$14,100,538, Bargnani - $11,862,500, and J.R. Smith - $5,565,000, now you can find a great market for Anthony, but he is supposed to be your franchise player. The Knicks most marketable assets have low salaries, not enough to bring back pieces that will impact the team. Any deal including one of these young cheap pieces, that will bring back an asset will need to include one larger contracts above.
Impatient Fanbase: If you want to break the team down to dust, remember, the fanbase is very impatient and after tasting a bit of success last year, rebuilding..... well
