Knicks Game Plan vs Orlando
Commentary by Simeon Russell @nothinbutknicks
The New York Knicks played with the energy and desperation needed to crush the Brooklyn Nets last night in a 30 pt blow out. It was a feel good win the Knicks desperately needed. The may have also been Mike Woodson saving grace. Tonight the Knicks have a chance to build on the win and begin to re-establish home dominance. So what do the Knicks need to do to secure the victory?
Play with pace. Last night the Knicks use ball movement and pace to counteract the Nets slow pace and half court attack. The Knicks need to do the same tonight. They need to take good shots, and rebound. They do not want Orlando out and running.
Keep moving the ball. The Knicks moved the ball very well last night and it led to open shots. Using the same philosophy tonight may confuse a young Orlando team that doesnt have much experience.
Keep turnovers low. The Knicks do not want Orlando to run. They must take care of the ball and keep Orlando from turning the game into a track meet.
Put pressure on the ball. Orlando is young and susceptible to turnovers. The Knicks need to turn them over and take them out of the game early.
Communicate. The Knicks need to communicate with each other to avoid open layups and dunks. Last night vs the Nets the Knicks missed rotations that gave up layups. If if were a tight game those layups would have been costly. Making the right rotations relys on communication. The Knicks do not want Orlando getting open layups and dunks leading to confidence. The Knicks want to take away their confidence early.
Finish with rebound. The Knicks need to finish with rebounds. Allowing second chance shots will let Orlando play with confidence. Again, the Knicks need to take Orlando's confidence away early.
The Knicks pulled off a win last night that will help repair their mental status. They must back it up with another win at home vs a young below .500 team. A win tonight can help the Knicks believe they can salvage the season.
