Knicks on my Bucket List
You know, I've been a Knicks fan every since I can remember loving basketball. My father wasn't around to much, but even if he was, he would've been more interested in boxing. I mean boxing was my first love until my mother told Kevin Rooney, yes Mike Tyson's Kevin Rooney, that he couldn't train me. That's a funny story by itself, so I won't reveal it now, saving that for a later story about Mike Tyson. After that, I turned to basketball and fell in love with the Knicks.
I have a serious dedication to the Knicks. When I didn't have cable, I'd lay next to the radio and listen to Clyde poetically paint a picture. I can't imagine the Knicks without Clyde! I remember watching Jordan drop 40+ on the Knicks as Johnny Newman missed a last second three vs the Bulls as they eliminated the Knicks in game 6 of the 1989 playoffs. I started crying, my mom was upset with me for crying, she didn't understand, couldn't understand, she wasn't a Knicks fan. When my step father passed away, I rushed to his mothers house so I can watch the Knicks play Boston in game 4 of the 1990 playoffs. Patrick Ewing had 20 in the first quarter 44 that day. At the end of the first quarter my uncle told me Ewing should have 80, and if he didn't he was a bum... huh? Knicks went on to win the game and complete a historic comeback to defeat the Celtics 3-2 after being down 0-2 in the series. I have skipped school, work, disobeyed my parents, all so I can watch the Knicks!
I hold grudges too! I refuse to wear Jordan's because of the pain he put me through during the Knicks WWF matches with the Bulls. I watched John Starks shoot the Knicks out of the championship in game 7 vs Houston. Still pissed, NBC cut the one of the finals games to watch the OJ Simpson chase! (Didn't have anything to do with the Knicks losing the series, I just gotta be mad at something). I Watch Reggie Miller shoot "from the parking lot!" and give the famous "choke" sign to Spike Lee. If I ever see Spike Lee 'Im going to tell him about it. As for Reggie, I don't even like to watch him on TNT. Watched P.J. Brown ruin our chances of upsetting the 72-10 Bulls, by starting a fight with Charlie Ward while Knicks were up 3-1 in the series vs the Miami Heat. Players came off the benches and there it was, suspensions! I swear the Knicks would've beat the Bulls that year. If I see P.J. Brown today I might slap him! I Watched the miraculous 8th seeded Knicks march to the finals behind L.J.'s four point play, only to lose to the Spurs. Ever since then I have never liked the Spurs, even though they have to be one of the greatest franchises ever... but still forget em!
Then came the darkest decade in Knicks history, the punctuated by the Isiah Thomas era.
Now... well you know.
I know I missed a lot of stuff, if you remember some things, leave a comment or hit me up on twitter @nothinbuknicks . Anyway the Knicks have given me some of the most magical moments I can remember, and some of the most painful moments I can remember.
And still I'm in love with this team and all I want is to see them win ONE just ONE championship before I kick the bucket. I just want ONE!
